Ensuring Continuity and Compliance: geocgi Leads Arlington National Cemetery’s Cloud Modernization.

Published: December 17, 2025

Geospatial Consulting Group International (geocgi)  has successfully executed the complex, mandatory migration of Arlington National Cemetery’s public-facing website infrastructure from AWS GovCloud Impact Level (IL) 2 to AWS GovCloud IL 4. This critical transition was directed by the Secretary of the Army as part of a high-level, multi-year Department of Defense (DoD) cloud strategy to modernize IT infrastructure. This successful project demonstrates geocgi’s robust capability in handling large-scale, mandated infrastructure transitions that are driven by broader federal modernization efforts.

Our team planned and executed the migration to deliver a seamless transition with minimal service disruption while meeting a non-negotiable compliance deadline. The effort required intensive coordination and detailed planning, including close collaboration with the Enterprise Cloud Management Agency (ECMA) to proactively mitigate potential connectivity risks. To support the transition, geocgi provisioned a new AWS GovCloud IL4 environment, architected as a precise mirror of the existing IL2 infrastructure hosting the Arlington National Cemetery website. To minimize downtime and ensure zero data loss—a critical requirement given the sensitivity of the data maintained by Arlington National Cemetery—the core database was migrated through a scheduled, synchronized transfer window.

Following the migration, comprehensive validation and verification checks were performed to confirm data integrity and system functionality. The transition of all data, applications, and services was executed in phased increments, supported by rigorous testing protocols and full adherence to Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) requirements. This disciplined approach ensured each component operated securely and as intended. As a result, the new AWS GovCloud environment fully complies with federal mandates for handling sensitive information, including Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), while maintaining system stability and operational continuity.

This complex and successful migration benefits Arlington National Cemetery with enhanced security and operational efficiency; and reaffirms geocgi’s position as a leader in strategic cloud compliance and migration expertise.
