Geospatial Consulting Group International, LLC (geocgi) is proud to highlight its enduring support of the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) through its work on the Installation Geospatial Information & Services (IGI&S) program, also known as GEOFidelis. GEOFidelis provides secure, accurate, and reliable installation geospatial information associated with space and capacity planning, emergency response and critical asset management, as well as installation readiness and resiliency. For years, geocgi’s team of geospatial professionals has delivered expert data management, advanced analysis, and enterprise systems support to ensure the Marine Corps has accurate, actionable geospatial information for mission readiness. This partnership underscores geocgi’s commitment to technical excellence and its dedication to advancing the USMC’s geospatial capabilities across installations worldwide.
Beyond mission-critical support, geocgi contributes to the broader USMC community through its ongoing collaboration with the Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO). For the past two years, geocgi’s development team has designed and delivered the official Marine Corps Marathon interactive web application – a fully integrated solution built with Esri’s industry-leading geospatial technology. To best visualize this public-facing content, the geocgi team leveraged Experience Builder and Instant Apps within ArcGIS Online to develop a dynamic, embedded web map application that not only guides tens of thousands of runners through the iconic race, but also enhances the race experience for runners, spectators, and supporters.
The 2025 race marks the 50th Marine Corps Marathon – a milestone for an event recognized worldwide for its impeccable organization on an iconic course through the nation’s capital. Known as “The People’s Marathon,” the Marine Corps Marathon is the largest marathon in the world that doesn’t offer prize money, making it a truly unique celebration of perseverance and community.
To commemorate and support this historic 50th milestone, geocgi has expanded the 2025 MCM web application with powerful new features and functionality using Experience Builder. The application now consists of not one, but two pages with separately embedded web maps. The “Runners Map” page displays important race stations (e.g., Water Points, Nutrition Points, Medical Aid Stations, etc.), the Runner’s Village, runner wave loading areas near the start line, Finish Area, Finish Festival, and associated points. The “Spectator and Landmarks Map” page emphasizes key landmarks in the National Capitol Region, optimal spectator viewing locations, and areas restricted to runners only. It also incorporates an interactive elevation profile of the marathon route, directions to important race locations, and detailed pop ups for Hotel points that were configured dynamically using Arcade expressions to deliver relevant and timely information for runners and spectators alike as they plan their race day. Pop ups for Runner and Spectator points include dynamic links to Google Street View images to help users orient themselves on and around the course. Optimized for both large (e.g., desktop), medium (iPad/tablet), and small-screen devices (mobile), the application delivers features and functionality to users at home and those on-the-go. The 2025 application also emphasizes race sponsors by incorporating their logos in point symbology and pop ups, thereby strengthening the collaboration between MCMO and their sponsors.
By leveraging the latest Esri tools, geocgi transformed what could have been a static course map into an engaging, user-centric platform that showcases the best of modern geospatial technology. demonstrates how GIS can powerfully integrate with community events, making planning, navigation, and participation more seamless than ever.
Geocgi also proudly sponsors the marathon and encourages staff to participate — whether by running, volunteering, or cheering from the sidelines — to celebrate USMC values of perseverance, camaraderie, and service. By pairing technical expertise with active community involvement, geocgi demonstrates its commitment to supporting the Marines not only in their operational missions but also in their traditions that build connection and resilience.
In addition to the Marine Corps Marathon, geocgi recently supported the MCMO in the 250 for the Corps Virtual Challenge, which celebrated 250 years of excellence of the USMC through a 250-mile virtual race. Geocgi visualized defining moments in USMC history through a series of interactive and engaging StoryMaps that were gradually unlocked as race participants logged miles. This project further demonstrates geocgi’s ability to combine Esri’s best technology with compelling visualization to honor and celebrate the legacy of the USMC.
As geocgi continues to support the USMC on and off the field, the company remains committed to its mission of enabling operational success through geospatial expertise. Geocgi is honored to stand beside the Marines in both their operational missions and their community traditions and looks forward to many more years of partnership and shared accomplishment.
“As we approach the 50th Marine Corps Marathon—an event of unprecedented size and scope—geocgi has given us the opportunity to deliver a truly elevated and differentiated course map. This go-to, single source for orientation to all aspects of the race offers unmatched depth and detail, enabling runners and spectators to engage with the event in an intuitive, geospatially rich way. It unlocks the experience not only for participants on the ground, but also for spectators, volunteers, and partners—wherever they may be. No other major endurance event offers this level of geospatial insight, making the MCM’s golden anniversary a groundbreaking milestone in the running industry—one truly worthy of the world’s finest fighting force.”
