Evacuation sites have been identified across the city of Iwakuni, Japan since the region is prone to natural disasters due to its geographic location; it is situated in the Nishiki River delta and surrounded by mountains to the west and the Seto Inland Sea to the east. The geocgi MCASI (Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni) team consolidated and translated the designated shelter information found on the City of Iwakuni website and produced a series of evacuation site maps for each natural disaster (flooding, earthquakes, and tsunamis) for the installation’s Military Family Housing Division. Information included in the maps are roads, points of interest, and site names as well as location in latitude and longitude to allow users to locate using GPS navigation devices and other applications.
